John Vass
From Moriston Matters, Issue 24, April 1981.
Another of our local worthies has passed over, and it is with regret I record the death of John Vass. Fully 30 years in Invermoriston, he came to be Forestry horseman at Port Clair forest and after a year or two purchased his own horse. John, his horse, Beaute, and big collie dog, Fred, became quite a common sight as they journeyed to John's work in the woods. A native of Rogart, which he left in early manhood, he first worked at farmwork on a farm in Easter Ross, then took over a croft at Culnakirk before coming to live at Dalcattaig. A lover of horses, he was a decent-living man who died as quietly as he had lived and is buried in his native Rogart.
