John Gibbon
From Moriston Matters, Issue 24, April 1981.
John Gibbon, whose tragic death at the end of February was briefly reported in the last issue, grew up at Rudhaban, and after leaving Fort Augustus School, worked for a time as an apprentice mechanic. He was one of the squad on the contract held by Sutherland to realign the road at the Post Office. He left the Glen for a time and on his return, joined the Forestry Commission in January 1979 where he became proficient in the use of the chainsaw, skyline winch and timber forwarder-skills which he tackled in a cheerful and willing manner.
His biggest asset, though, was his sense of humour, for even in times of stress he would find a witty remark to match the sit-uation. In an ever-depressing world a sense of humour is a great thing. John had it, and with his going, a void has been left. I am sure I speak for all ais colleagues and friends when I say it was a pleasure knowing and working with him.
