Christina Gray

From Moriston Matters, Issue 17, February 1980.

Mrs Christina Ann (Hoddie) Gray, who died on January 20th was a native of the Glen, having spent her early, years at Birch Cottage (now Woodlands) which was built by her father. She became a teacher and after her marriage to Mr James (Hoddie) Gray, the keeper, she was the gracious and hospitable mistress of Inchmore for many years. To her fell the pleasant task of re-opening Dalchreichart School on April 14th 1953, after it had been closed for 6 1/2 years. There were 12 pupils on the roll, and it is interesting to note that the then Director of Education, Dr. J. A. MacLean, visited the homes of all these children to tell them personally of the re-opening and what transport arrangements would be made. After a few months, however, Mrs Gray moved to Clunas School, where she remained until she retired and moved to Inverness, where she was always keen for news from anyone she met from the Glen.
