Glenmoriston In The Napier Commission Report
In 1883 the Napier Commission was set up to investigate the state of the Highlands and Islands and the causes of widespread poverty and mass emigration. The Clearances, sheep farms and deer forests were at the root of most of these problems. Relative to the rest of the Highlands and Islands, Glenmoriston did not suffer too much and very few families were cleared. However, sheep farms and deer forests were a feature of the area and a few references to this can be found in the Napier Report.
